Meanwhile, let’s talk about the Nokia E71 vs Nokia E72, shall we?

As you all know, Nokia made a big hit with its Nokia E71. The phone has a great reputation and also won several awards. Many people I know who used the E71 said that this is the best phone they have ever had. Moreover, you can tell the supreme of the Nokia E71 by searching over at the internet for reviews.

Lately, the giant handset company Nokia have decided to unveiled the so-they-called upgrade of the Nokia E71; The Nokia E72. However, there are still some people over at the internet saying that the new Nokia E72 is worse compared to the Nokia E71. On the other side, some other people said that they can’t wait to get their hands to this babe. So which one is better in the battle of Nokia E71 vs E72?

So here’s what we are going to do: we are going to make a side-by-side comparison between Nokia E71 vs Nokia E72 based on the specs and features released to date.

E71 vs E72 Design, Dimension, Weight and Display Comparison

It’s a tie. Both of them is similar in terms of dimension and weight. The Nokia E72 is only 1mm wider than the Nokia E71, it’s also about 1gr heavier but other than that it’s identical. In terms of display, it’s also relatively similar. The Nokia E72 has a 2.4 inch screen while the Nokia E71 has a 2.36 inch screen. Both of them have the same resolution. The design of both phones are also great, and there’s a slight design change in the Nokia E72 that makes it looks like a Blackberry (or the N71 younger brother, the E63) :) Another thing that interests me is the metal finish of the Nokia E72, which gives a superb look. However, I’m sure that the grip and touch feel of E71 vs E72 is relatively the same, which is superb.

Keypad

Both of the phones have the QWERTY keyboard and Five way scroll key. The E72 has a slightly bigger keys and a rather a smaller space key. However, there’s an addition of optical trackpad on the new Nokia E72, so in this part, the Nokia E72 is better than the Nokia E71.

E71 vs E72 Sound and Headset Comparison

Finally Nokia put up a standard 3.5mm headset jack on the new Nokia E72,  after the frustation of Nokia E71 users who wanted to have the feature in the Nokia E71 (it has 2.5mm headset jack)

E71 vs E72 CPU speed

The Nokia E72 almost doubled the CPU speed of the E71. E72 uses 600 MHz CPU compared to E71’s 369 MHz CPU. So without a doubt, it WILL be faster. Much faster.

E71 vs E72 Storage Comparison

In this part, once again the Nokia E72 beats the Nokia E71. The Nokia E71 that has 110 MB storage with 128 RAM is good enough, but Nokia E72 take it further by adding 140MB more storage to the E72. The RAM is still the same though. Another difference is the max capacity of expandable memory supported of the phones. E71 supports up to 8GB while E72 supports up to 16GB. Yes. Storage is important these days :)

E71 vs E72 Data Connection

Here is the part where I fell in love with the new Nokia E72. It has HSDPA 10.2Mbps down and HSUPA 2Mbps up! This is far better than the E71’s HSDPA 3.6Mbps down and no HSUPA. So in the connectivity, the E72 is far better than its predecessor the E71.

Camera Comparison

Nokia also upgrades the E72 camera. The new E72 still has the E71 features such as the autofocus and LED Flash, but the new E72 boasts a 5 megapixel camera with larger resolution (2592×1944) compared to the E71 (3.2 megapixel. 2048×1536 pixels). So it seems that the E series is adding a flavour of entertainment in a business phone with the camera and the headset jack I talked about :)

UI comparison

The E72 has a faster interface (thanks to the processor) and a nicer navigation transition effects compared to the Nokia E71. Another difference is the contextualization of e-mail. The 72 contextualizes your mail server by adding icons as to which service you’re actually using, for example, Gmail. This is different with the old E71 system that label email according to the name you gave it (i.e “personal mail” or “work email”).

Battery

It seems that even though the E72 has a rather higher specs than the E71, the E72 is more energy-efficient. This is shown by longer battery life even though the battery type is the same (Li-Po 1500 mAh (BP-4L))

  • E72 Standby time: 480 hours (E71 up to 410 hours)
  • E72 Talktime: up to 12 hours 30 min (E71 up to 10 hours 30 min)

    Hi, i’m from dominican republic, excellent comparison, no doubt that the E-72 is alot better than E-71, but what is the diferents in price so far?

    I haven’t got detailed information about the price of the N72, but rumors over at the internet are saying that the price will be approximately EUR 350 before taxes. So It’s still in a reasonable price with that kind of specs and features :)

    I am looking for a good phone for chatting, internet browsing and also I like to take pictures in my daily life. Before I was comparing Blackberry Curve 8520 and Nokia E71. I knew the difference of specification between E71 & E72. But more higher price of E72 is out of my budget. However next 2,3 days I’ll make my final decession among E71 / E72. Surely I’ll not go for a Blackberry.

    hi, i am using nokia e-72 since 1 month, it is absolutely amazing much faster data connection comparing to black berry and nokia-e71, even battery back up also too good, i suggest every one who is going to buy black berry and nokia e-71 phones, dont do that mistake. Go for nokia e-72, u will be know more about after u use this mobile.

    I am using E71 and I have tried out the E72 in one Expo held in town, however I cant identify much different in processor speed. Data transfer is fantastic. Camera, I would prefer SE.

    i have owned both phones but have gone back to my e71 the trackpad is hell to use and just got me so annoyed that i hated using it. i would advise people to stay with the e71 and not get carried away with the hype

    I am a software professional and that too for phones! – E72 has all the cool features out from BB and past nokias,
    E72 has 3G/GPRS/EDGE gprs connectivity – unlike bb’s own server
    E72 has support for third-part application – Unlike Blackberry
    E72 can supply more chatting n entertainment than any other gives – BlackBerry chat program is not good in compare of Nokia’s new chat application (try it once guy)

    I am in fond love of this device and you know wat? This is ultimate device i’ve got and its around 350 USD only in my place ;)
