Yay, finally the long-awaited Nokia E72 got a professional review from our Russian folks at the Mobile-Review. It is a long long review, so I took the liberty to sum up the Nokia E72 Review for you :) There are several review aspects that I would talk about here; the The E72 Design, Specs, Features, and Comparison to the predecessor, the Nokia E71 and its QWERTY goodness.

E72 Design

Ok, I think we all agree that Nokia E71 has a great design, and it seems that Nokia doesn’t want to risk that. The E72 is very much alike its older brother in terms of design. The size of E72 (114×59.5×10.1 mm) and the weight (128 gr) is really close to the E71, which means it will fit in in most common places such as  hirt pocket, in jeans, trousers, not to mention the bag or something similar. There are 3 original colors of the E72, Zodium Black, Metal Grey, and Topaz Brown.

The case uses the same material with E71. However, there is an addition of 3.5 mm standard headphone jack!! Not that we don’t love the E71’s 2mm jack, it’s just that we love the bigger jack better :) Another important upgrade is the sound chip, which makes the E72 has a better sound. The E72 uses the same display as the E71 (QVGA, 320×240 px, 16m colors)

Another difference found in the E72 is the QWERTY keyboard. The Nokia E72 has a slightly bigger QWERTY keyboard keys but the space key is smaller than the E71. It is all about habit actually, but many people prefer the E72 keyboard. However, there’s an addition of optical trackpad on the new Nokia E72, but it takes time to get used to.

Nokia E72 Specs and Features

E72 used the lithium-polymer battery BP-4L 1500 mAh (the same battery of Nokia E71). According to the manufacturer, the phone is able to work out to 12.5 hours of talk time (GSM), up to 20 days in standby mode. Music playback time – up to 37.5 hours. The E72 is 15-20% more energy-efficient than the E71

E72 uses 250MB of memory, 140 MB bigger than the E71. The RAM is still the same, but the max capacity of the memory card is increased from 8GB to 16GB. The CPU is also better, twice better. The E72 CPU speed is 600 MHz CPU compared to E71’s 369 MHz CPU

In terms of navigation, the E72 has the same GPS with the E71, but it has additional digital compass :) . The data connectivity is also great, It has HSDPA 10.2Mbps down and HSUPA 2Mbps up.

Nokia also upgrades the E72 camera. The new E72 still has the E71 features such as the autofocus and LED Flash, but the new E72 boasts a 5 megapixel camera with larger resolution (2592×1944) compared to the E71 (3.2 megapixel. 2048×1536 pixels).

Ok, the conclusion:

Impressions

Basically in terms of performance, Nokia E71 and E72 offers a great experience. However, due to the faster processor I believe that the Nokia E72 might be faster compared to the Nokia E71. Another thing that makes difference between the two phones is the sound quality. The Nokia E72 has a louder sound on the table compared to the E71; but the E71 sound louder when you put it in your jacket’s pocket. Well, it is just a matter of preference, actually. I also think that the which phone is louder is not that important. Lol. Anyway, the vibration call remained exactly the same.

There is a slight changes in terms of design. I personally love the Nokia E72 design better than its predecessor. I’m not saying that the Nokia E71 design is bad, the E71 has a hot and same reliable design, I just love this one better.

One thing I would like to note here is the increased speed (again); responsiveness, and 20% of increased performance… The camera does not produce stunning impression, it is ordinary, but the clear winner of the Nokia E71.

Overall, the Nokia E72 in this review is a damn good phone. The Nokia E71 successor completes most of the previous phone functions. And if you asked me, I would upgrade my E71 to this hot-looking and reliable Nokia E72….This is the most interesting devices on the market to date!

I love your reviews, both the comparison between E71 and E72, and this review. But I’d like to ask for your advice? I’m not sure which one to get, is the extra money (if it will actually cost more?) for the E72 worth it? Or will I be content with the E71?
    Thank you =)

  6. PSR says:

E72 has a terrible memory management. It hangs all the time on address book search and does not share internet connectivity which my earlier 2 year old phone used to do.
On the whole, it has been an extremely regrettable purchase and wish Nokia would not risk its brand equity with such offerings.
Maybe it is ok in the tied sales market
But when we buy with full prices, Nokia is bound to have a killer backlash on upmarket models in the future.
At least my next business phone will NOT BE A NOKIA
