Nokia E72 vs Blackberry Tour 9630 Business Phone Comparison
Yap. The day has come for the upcoming business smartphone in the market. Both of them is the latest invention in the business segment of each manufacturers, which are Nokia and Blackberry. Both of them will be released later this year. Nokia E72 will be unveiled in Q3 this year while the Blackberry Tour 9630 will be unveiled in this summer.
For now, there are no carrier related to the Nokia E72 (yeah, soon they will be…) and rumors over at the internet said that the new Blackberry Tour 9630 will be available from Sprint and Verizon. And here’s where the war collides: both Nokia E72 and Blackberry Tour 9630 have the same target: the business people.
So what we are going to do here is to compare the Nokia E72 vs Blackberry Tour 9630. We will discussed and compare E72 and Tour’s design, specs, features, multimedia, and price to date aspects.
Design Comparison
As you can see from the picture above, both E72 and Tour has the same ‘aura’. They are quite similar in terms of design. Both of them has a gorgeous look of a smartphone. The E72 is slightly lighter than the Tour (128 grams compared to 130 grams). The Tour 9630 is also a bit thicker and wider than the E72. What’s more interesting is, the E72 has a metal case. Well, I go for E72 then
E72 vs Tour 9630 Display, Keyboard, and Navigation
For display I go for Tour 9630. The reason?
- a slightly bigger screen size (2.44 inches) compared to the E72’s screen size (2.44 inches)
- a nice resolution. Blackberry Tour 9630 boasts a 480×340 pixels screen resolution. That is much better than the E72’s 320×240 pixels screen resolution
Both phones has a relatively the same size QWERTY keypad. But in terms of navigation, the new Nokia E72 offers a hot optical trackpad compared to the usual trackball in the Blackberry Tour 9630. This is confusing. I guess it’s a tie.
Storage and Headphone comparison
Nokia E72 has a bit smaller on-board memory than the Tour 9630 (250 MB to 256 MB); and both phones also support additional expandable memory slot for up to 16GB. The standard 3.5mm headphone jack is also supported in both phones. It’s another tie…
E72 vs Tour 9630 camera comparison
In this section the Nokia E72 really overcome the Tour 9630. The new business phone from Nokia has a nice 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, while the Blackberry Tour only offers a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. E72 also has a secondary camera for video calls, but I couldn’t find any information about this in the Blackberry Tour official site.
E72 vs Tour 9630 Connectivity
Both of the phones already has 3G connectivity and bluetooth. But once again, I’m confused about the reason RIM doesn’t include Wi-Fi in the Blackberry Tour 9630. Obviously, the E72 has it.In addition, E72 also has Infrared. Bummer for Blackberry Tour 9630…
Batteries
Nokia E72 has a higher specs in battery. E72 uses a 1500 mAh battery while the Tour 9630 only uses 1400 mAh battery. The E72 also have a longer talk time and standby time compared to the Tour 9630.
Other features
GPS, MMS, GeoTagging, Video Recording. Both phones have those features. So here’s other features that the Nokie E72 has but the Tour 9630 doesn’t: Digital Compass and FM radio….
E72 vs Tour 9630 Price comparison
There’s no exact information about this yet, since the phones haven’t been officially released. But rumors over at the internet are saying that the Nokia E72 will be priced around $485 (unlocked); while the Tour 9630 will be priced at $199 on 2-yr contract on Sprint.
So bottom line is; it’s about your taste. Which one will you choose, guys?

Did the reviewer actually use either of these devices for any period of time? E72 flattens the Blackberry when it comes to usability, keyboard ergonomics and real world battery life.. but it looks like here they just compared the spec sheets.. Combined with a verdict of “dunno”, what is the point of this review?
