The Motorola Droid was one of the best selling Android smartphone, and now Motorola have come with the next generation of Droid; the Motorola Droid 2. The Motorola Droid 2 was last to come after the announcement of the Motorola Droid X. What we have here is the latest Motorola Droid 2 review, and we will cover several aspects of the Droid 2, including the design, hardware, software and camera.

We will also add a bit comparison between the original Motorola Droid vs Droid 2. So without further a do, here is the Motorola Droid 2 Review:

Droid 2 vs Droid Comparison Picture

Droid 2 vs Droid Comparison Picture

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Design

For untrained eyes, the difference between Motorola Droid and Droid 2 is very little. The Droid 2 still got the same look on its sliding keyboard and the same look and feel. The Droid 2 screen size also remains the same with the original Droid, along with the same screen type. There is a slight difference in the arrangement of the capacitive buttons below the screen. A noticeable difference between the Motorola Droid and Droid 2 design is located at the low part of the Droid 2. Motorola Droid 2 got a new rounded scoop, rather than the Droid’s sharp sloped chin. Regarding the weight and size, both phones are very similar with 6 ounces of weight and 60.5mm by 116.3mm by 13.7mm.

The Droid 2 QWERTY keyboard feels solid and pretty easy to use. The Motorola Droid 2 keys are solid, wider, and more raised compared to the original Motorola Droid. This makes the QWERTY keyboard experience feels nicer. There’s also an addition of a tab key and also a key for voice search. The Motorola Droid 2 QWERTY keyboard got these improvements by giving up one thing -the D-pad- and replacing it with arrow keys and OK button.

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Hardware and Specs

Review: Droid 2 vs Droid Picture Keyboard

Review: Droid 2 vs Droid Picture Keyboard

First of all, a let down in the Motorola Droid 2 is the fact that it still utilizes the same battery as the original Droid. Motorola Droid 2 has 1390 mAh battery which is fairly enough for one day of general use. I just wish that they had added the battery capacity.

Motorola Droid 2 has a much faster processor compared to the original Droid. The Motorola Droid 2 utilizes TI OMAP 3630 1Ghz processor. The Motorola Droid 2 RAM is 512MB and it also has 8GB of internal memory. In addition, the Motorola Droid 2 also support microSD card up to 32GB.

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Software

Droid 2 Review: Software

Droid 2 Review: Software

Motorola Droid 2 comes pre-installed with the Android 2.2 Froyo. In fact, this is the first phone that is launched with the new OS. Motorola have also added the same UI tweaks as the Motorola Droid X. Some of the widgets are resizeable. There are live wallpapers, etc etc. Standard.

Regarding the Motorola Droid 2 pre-installed apps, you will see Verizon 3G mobile Hotspot app, Audiblo audio book app, Kindle e-reader, Car Dock customizations app, City ID app and blockbuster movie rental apps. Other notable apps are DLNA media sharing app and Motorola Media Share app. You can play Need for Speed Shift, or chat with Skype mobile. Other are RSS feed app and standard news and weather apps.

Now the Android 2.2 Froyo performance is great as always.

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Camera

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Camera Sample

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Camera Sample

The Droid 2 camera has not improved since the original Droid. It is still the same 5 megapixel camera found on the original Droid. The image quality is mediocre, and Droid X’s 8 megapixel camera take shots better. The camera comes with many customizations, and by default you will be taking pictures in Widescreen format. You might want to change the setting to full 5 Megapixel camera if you are planning to transfer the images on to your desktop.

The video result is also mediocre, with max resolution of 480p. The microphone also works fine. Below is a sample of video taken with Motorola Droid 2:

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Other features

  1. Verizon’s network signal is great
  2. Wi-Fi hotspot works well, but Verizon will charge you for this
  3. EVDO Rev. A data speed works quite fine. No, it’s not 4G.
  4. pre-loaded Swype is quite cool
  5. marvelous performance of speakerphone

Motorola Droid 2 Review: Conclusion

Motorola Droid 2 is certainly a nice successor for the original Droid. It may not have flashy and eye opening specs; but at least there are some specs that are great such as the 1GHz processor. The QWERTY keyboard also works fine and has certainly improved from the original Droid.

The cons of this Motorola Droid 2 found in this review are the battery and camera which are not improved since the original Droid. But all in all, with the right marketing strategy, the Motorola Droid 2 will be able to keep up the Android name.

I bet some of you are wondering which one is the ultimate OS, is it the Windows 7 or the Apple iPhone 4 OS, the iOS 4 or the upcoming Android 2.2 Froyo. While we still haven’t got the Android 2.2 Froyo vs iOS 4, you might be interested on this comparison: iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7. We will find out what is the difference between the iOS 4 and Windows Phone 7, and hopefully, we will discover which one is better.

In this Windows Phone 7 vs iOS 4 comparison there will be several aspects to be compared. Those are: UI (User Interface), homescreen, design concept, contact details aggregation, browser, multitasking, business tools. games, copy-paste ability and a bunch of other comparison. So without further ado, let’s just start the iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 comparison.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 UI (User Interface) Comparison

The Windows Phone 7 comes with a new UI, called Metro UI. It is somewhat similar with the iOS 4 UI, since it has a multi touch ability and it is nice flowing and snappy. I just wish that Microsoft could bring it faster.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Homescreen Comparison

Again, the Windows Phone 7 and iOS 4 share the features. Both of the Homescreen are customizable, and got many shortcuts. The only difference is the look.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Design Concept Comparison

Unlike the iPhone 4’s iOS 4 which is apps-oriented, the Windows Phone 7 focuses more on providing user an aid to do simple things

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Comparison

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Comparison

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Contacts details aggregation Comparison

This is the part where Windows Phone 7 stands out compared to iOS 4. iPhone 4 iOS 4 doesn’t have this feature. The Windows Phone 7 got the WebOS contact sync with social network and email accounts that are usually used in Palm phones.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Browser comparison

In the browser comparison, Windows Phone 7 comes with native IE 7, while iOS 4 comes with the native Safari browser. However, in my personal opinion third party apps such as Bolt browser, or Opera Mini works better.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Multitasking Comparison

Although Windows Phone 7 comes with multitasking support, but it is nowhere near the iPhone 4 and its iOS 4 multitasking ability. Moreover, the Windows Phone 7 mulitasking only supports 1st party apps. Perhaps in the future update the Windows Phone 7 will be able to put the multitasking ability for all apps, but until then, the winner is iPhone 4 and the iOS 4

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Games comparison

The both Windows Phone 7 and iOS 4 comes with a game support, and you can play online. The Windows Phone 7 has Microsoft Xbox Live and iOS 4 got the Games Center.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Apps, Music and Entertainment Comparison

The Apple App store is hugely popular, with huge collection of apps. You can literally find any apps there. This is different with the Windows Phone 7, since they still building their own app store. That and added with competition from Android Market, it will take a while for the Windows Phone 7 to grow their own app store.

iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 Copy and Paste

The copy and paste in an OS is a crucial thing these days. Apple and its iOS 4 have managed to achieve that but the Windows Phone 7 haven’t.

I guess those are the notable comparison between the Windows Phone 7 vs iOS 4. It is clear that the Windows Phone 7 still needs some time to grow and catch up to iPhone’s iOS 4. So in this current iOS 4 vs Windows Phone 7 comparison, the winner is iOS 4. Congratulations, Apple.

The samsung Galaxy S is Samsung’s flagship for their Android superphone. It is touted to be an iPhone 4 killer, and I have to say this time Apple and the iPhone 4 have a fierce competition from the Samsung and their Galaxy S. This Samsung Galaxy S have different version in the United States, and they are the Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Captivate, Samsung Fascinate and Samsung Epic 4G. Although we have made a comparison between Samsung Vibrant vs Captivate, what we have here is a more complete comparison of Samsung Galaxy S devices (Samsung Vibrant vs Captivate vs Fascinate vs Epic 4G)

Below is the video comparison between Samsung Vibrant vs Captivate vs Fascinate vs Epic 4G. So what are the difference? Which one is the best? So far the most different variant of the Samsung Galaxy S is of course the Samsung Epic 4G. This phone has a full QWERTY keyboard and also the second 4G phone from Sprint. So based on the specs sheet, I think that the Samsung Epic 4G is the winner in this Samsung Vibrant vs Captivate vs Fascinate vs Epic 4G.

In the four minutes video you will see the Super AMOLED display, the 1GHz Hummingbird processor, and the “brilliant” TouchWiz UI. All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S and its variants is a great alternative for iPhone 4.
