The new Sony Ericsson smartphones, Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro have finally announced officially and right now people are expecting the official prices’ for these two phones. Lately, the updated news stated that these two smartphones’ prices will come together with their first appearance on European storefronts. The price will be different for each phone depends on the categories it belongs to, whether the unlocked category or the locked one.
Certainly, the different prices should be reasonable learning the slightest difference of specifications between Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. The features are commonly the same that both smartphones are equipped with Android-based operating system, a 600 MHz processor, ‘Rachael’ User Interface, and a 5 MP camera. The only difference appears between these two models is the presence of physical keyboard. The X10 Mini Pro comes with a slide-out keyboard for more convenient typing. Just several days ago we presented a review on the Sony Ericsson Vivaz, and we find the Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a very interesting high-end touchscreen phone with a very nice style and camera result. Today we will do a comparison between the Sony Ericsson Vivaz vs Samsung Omnia HD vs Sony Ericsson Satio vs Samsung Jet. We will focus the comparison on camera capabilities and the touchscreen comparison. Sony Ericsson Vivaz vs Samsung i8910 Omnia HD
It is a destined comparison. The reason? Both of Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Samsung Omnia HD has a Symbian OS and 720p video, making them a bitter rival. Samsung Omnia HD was released months before the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. Samsung Omnia HD does have some problems at launch, such as audio quality and framerate issues in videos. But since it’s been a while since the launch, Samsung have managed to fix the audio problem by switching to AAC, but video is still struggling to make it to 24 frames per second.
In the opposite side of the ring we have the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. We already aware that the Vivaz has some issues as well, but it is capable of delivering all 24 fps – and the HD video recording is quite promising. In addition, the Symbian UI in the Sony Ericsson Vivaz also feels more refined and smooth. Simple yet effective placement of phone functionality on the home screen is nice, and there’s also the custom media menu. I also think that the Sony Ericsson Vivaz’s design is better compared to the Samsung Omnia HD
Sony Ericsson Vivaz vs Sony Ericsson Satio
Most of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz’s functionality can also be found in the Sony Ericsson Satio. Based on the design, they also have some resemblances. The difference is that the Vivaz has a more curved top and bottom. Another difference is the screen size. Vivaz has 3.2″ screen, while the Satio has 3.5″ screen. However, the Vivaz won in the video recording capabilities, since the Satio can only capture VGA@30fps. However, the Satio has 12MP still shots. Satio still lives in a FastPort world though, so finding a good pair of headphones might be a problem.
Sony ericsson Vivaz vs Samsung S8000 Jet
We have to admit that Samsung S8000 Jet has one of the best touchscreen display out there. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz does have a slightly bigger screen, but the Samsung Jet has 480 x 800 pixels resolution. And for the record, it also uses AMOLED screen (SE Vivaz only uses resistive TFT screen with 640 x 360 pixels) so the Samsung Jet really does have a great pixel density.
However, in terms of camera Sony Ericsson Vivaz outrun the Samsung Jet big time. The Samsung S8000 Jet has only 5 megapixels and D1@30fps to offer. Another problem with the Samsung Jet is that it doesn’t have the flexibility of a smartphone, even though it has a SatNav software and a document viewer.
Ok so that’s it for today, and hopefully in the future I will release a more detailed comparison between those smartphones. So stay tuned here at gadgetwidgets.com

Sony Ericsson Vivaz Design review
Sony Ericsson Vivaz has a standard design for a touchscreen phone. It has a large touchscreen display with nHD resolution (360 x 640 pixels) and three buttons bellow. Compared to the Sony ericsson Satio, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz is pretty similar but the top and bottom part is more curved. The material used for the Vivaz’s case is mostly plastics, but surprisingly it is very good and solid. All in all, it’s a well-built handset using quality plastics. Compact and lightweight, the Vivaz is a very friendly device, and beautifully styled too.
Sony Ericsson Vivaz Display review
As we’ve mentioned before, the 3.2″ resistive touchscreen has 640 x 360 pixel resolution and 16 Million colors. It has nice picture quality with excellent contrast for a TFT unit. Resistive displays generally need more pressure to get a click registered. As we found out though, the Vivaz screen response is excellent. The resistive technology is certainly not a drawback here. Unfortunately, the sunlight legibility is poor – the Vivaz does slightly better than the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, which has a screen with the same size, resolution and touch technology.

Sony ericsson Vivaz loud speaker and audio review
Our folks at gsmarena have conducted a loudspeaker test for the Vivaz. And the result is not so good. Compared to other phone such as Acer NeoTouch, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, SE Satio, and HTC Touch HD, the sony ericsson vivaz loudspeaker fall behind.
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz isn’t the loudest of them handset as far as headphones volume is concerned. However when subjected to our traditional audio quality test it showed a decent overall performance with even a few excellent marks here and there. The noise level, dynamic range and stereo crosstalk are particularly impressive, while the distortion levels are both pretty decent.
The cut-off extreme bass frequencies are the only slight shortfall of the Vivaz frequency response. However it is excellent for the rest of the audible range so no biggie.
Sony Ericsson Vivaz Camera and Image Review
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz packs an 8-megapixel camera and is capable of taking photos of up to 3264 x 2448 pixels. It also sports a LED flash, but its serves video better than the still images. The interface is quite comfortable. In the options you’ll find several features such as self-timer, white balance, flash on/off, effects, image stabilizer and picture size.
Regarding the image quality, Sony Ericsson Vivaz produces splendid photos. The colors are vibrant and rich (too bad we don’t have the weather to prove it), the amount of resolved detail is very good and the noise levels are low. Overall the image quality is very impressive!
Sony Ericsson Vivaz main disadvantages:
No camera lens protection
No auto mode for the flash/video light
LED flash not powerful enough
The S60 5th edition UI isn’t to the best in class standards
No proximity sensor sensor to lock the screen during a call
No DivX or XviD support out-of-the-box
No smart or voice dialing
No office document editing (without a paid upgrade)
No stereo speakers
No digital compass (magnetometer)
Videocalling uses only the main camera (no secondary one)
Within the holiday season, we were stuffed with so many new phones… And some of them are these phones, the Sony Ericsson HAZEL, Sony Ericsson ELM and Motorola MILESTONE. Now what we are about to do is comparing the Hazel vs Elm vs Milestone. Ok so let’s just get the comparison started, shall we?
OS comparison
Both of Hazel and Elm still uses the Sony Ericsson’s Proprietary flash based UI, while the Motorola Milestone uses Android 2.0. It is obvious I think that the Milestone will offer a better UI experience..
Internet Connectivity
All of the phone has HSDPA, but the Motorola milestone win here since it has a HSDPA 10.2 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps. The second place goes to SE Hazel with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2 Mbps. Oh I almost forgot. All of them have Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and A-GPS.
Form factor, Size n Weight
When it comes to form factor, it comes to one’s personal taste. These phones has a different form factor. The Motorola Milestone is a Full-QWERTY side-slider phone, while the Hazel is a slider and the ELM is a good ol’ fashion candybar phone. And as you can predict from the form factor, the lightest one is the Elm and the heaviest is the Milestone. Actually it isn’t that different, I think what matters is the form factor.
Display
Motorola milestone is a clear winner here. With a big 3.7″ 16M color capacitive TFT LCD touchscreen, it surpasses both the Hazel and Elm.Not to mention the highest resolution of 854 x 480 pixels.
Memory
Again, the Milestone is the winner. While the Hazel and Elm uses 319 MB and 280 MB of integrated memory respectively plus Hot-swappable MicroSD card slot (up to 16GB), the Motorola Milestone already integrated 133 MB internal memory, 256 MB RAM, plus MicroSD card Slot (up to 16GB)
Keypads
The side-slider design of Milestone really gives QWERTY addicts a great experience. But the large keys on the Hazel is also quite good for those who doesn’t really like QWERTY. The ELM has the smallest and a bit uncomfortable small keypad.
Camera
All of them have the same camera resolution, 5 megapixel. But the Milestone has double LED flash compared to ELM and Hazel that only uses one LED flash. And according to sample images spreaded over at the internet, the Milestone has the best result in camera
Design and feel
Motorola Milestone has a strong metallic chasis and rubberry rear that make this phone solid in grip. Meanwhile the rear of the Hazel is made of metal for a very solid upmarket feel. There’s a bit of metallic finish on the Hazel but the truth is it’s all plastic. Real metal would’ve perhaps made it too heavy – the Hazel isn’t really preoccupied with being slim. The ELM is small enough to fit in any pocket or purse, and along with the small size comes the friendly weight of just 90 grams. Lightweight it is, but the Elm feels quite nice to hold thanks to its quality materials.
So what do you think, which one will you choose? It is obvious that the Milestone is the winner, but just remember, I strongly think that the Milestone’s price will be significantly higher than the Hazel and Elm. Now if we take a look on the Hazel and Elmcomparison, based on the specs I would choose the Hazel. It’s more fashionable and more tecchie
Our friend Eldar from Mobile-review has done it again! Just recently he revealed his personal preview and first impression on the Sony Ericsson Kurara U5, the phone we’ve talked about (saying that it might be better than the Sony Ericsson Satio) several days ago. The Kurara U5 development was started at the same time with Satio, and it seems that the Kurara U5 will be rolled out in February 2010. Some say that the SE Kurara U5along with the SE XPERIA X10 will be the Sony Ericsson’s flagship device in 2010.
According to Eldar’s Sony Ericsson Kurara U5 preview, the SE Kurara U5 has nothing new to offer. Compared to the Samsung i8910 OmniaHD, the Kurara has a similar display (3.5 inch touchscreen) minus the AMOLED technology. Other features are 3.5mm headset jack, MicroSD card slot, and Twitter and Facebook apps.
About the Sony Ericsson Kurara U5’s camera, it packs 8.1MP camera with autofocus, but this is what Eldar think about it: “nothing to write home about, and except for its 720p resolution for video, it’s little to no different from your average cheap 8 MP module.”
However, the phone does have the Cortex A8 processor, which makes the Symbian UI is faster compared to the OmniaHD…. And this combined with the perfect pricing (I hope ) could just make this Sony Ericsson Kurara U5 a popular one next year…
So what do you think about the SE Kurara U5 preview and first impression? Do you agree? Some more Eldar’s deeper thoughts can be found from the link provided below…
We all were excited to hear this rumor. According to the buzz over at the internet, it seems that Sony Ericsson is planning to release a brand new and hot phone codenamed Sony Ericsson Kurara. This Kurara is one heck of a phone, with lots of leading tech stuffs included inside.
Speaking of the SE Kurara specs and features, buzzes over at the internet are saying that the it will pack the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, with ARM Cortex A8 CPU that has graphical branches of the likes of PowerVR GPU.In addition, the SE kurara packs 256 MB of RAM and video recording at HD 720p.
Previously, many people thought that the Sony Ericsson Kurara is the cheaper version of the Sony Ericsson Satio; but with this latest rumor, the Sony Ericsson Kurara might be better than the Satio. The Kurara release date is said to be on February next year. The Price? around $750.
Let’s hope that this rumor is real Stay tuned for the updated news on this babe…
T-Mobile, the largest US carrier will soon releasing the hot-looking Sony Ericsson Equinox clamshell… You must’ve known why I said on this article title that this phone will surely please the fashion-concerned people. Just look at the design. I am personally in love with this clamshell phone design..
Anyway, the Sony Ericsson Equinox is basically a 3G clamshell phone featuring “eye-catching light effects” that let you associate up to five contacts with a unique effect.
If you didn’t follow the news, the Sony Ericsson Equinox is actually the US version of Sony Ericsson T707, the Equinox also features a 2.2 inch QVGA internal display, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, YouTube access and a 3.2MP camera.
About the price, the T-Mobile priced the Sony Ericsson Equinox for $50 with a 2-yr contract agreement.
Quadword has made some nice and free panel dedicated for Sony Ericsson XPERIA phone series, including XPERIA X1 and XPERIA X2. So the free panel name is X-Panel and apparently it has reached ver. V1.01.09…. So you can grab the XPERIA X1 and X2 free panel below this post.
Anyway, I haven’t posted the free Panel before; so I think putting up the history will be wise… so here they are:
X-Panel V1.01.04
- fixed some of the indicator issues
- added basic sub-panel support (buttons on the bottom to switch)
- added an ugly “Debug” Sub-Panel to help me debuggin
X-Panel V1.01.00
- redesign of the buttons to match the clocks grafik.
- bluetooth indicator (with link to bluetooth settings)

after you have those installment, you can download and install the free X-panel for XPERIA phones, including X1 and X2… There is also an important note that the Growing Panel doesn’t work well on non-english devices.
Finally the big announcement day has come. Just yesterday Sony Ericsson has officially announced the long-awaited Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2… The XPERIA X2 is the successor of X1, which also took a lot of attention, but failed to impress the market due to the delays…. Anyway, the XPERIA X2 specs and features offer nicer things compared to the X1. One of them is Windows Mobile 6.5; which makes the X2 will be stuffed with office things such as Microsoft Office Mobile, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and Internet Explorer Mobile. It also offer you the new SlideView feature, allowing the XPERIA X2 users to gain a “quick access to frequently used phone activities”. Panels is still the attraction in this series of XPERIA. There are 14 preloaded panels and you can download other 16 panels from the web. Some panels are Skype, Google, Mytopia, CNN, Windows Live, games and so on.
According to our source, the new XPERIA X2 which comes with 2 options of colors (Elegant Black and Modern Silver) will be sold on early Q4. However, there is still no information on the Price of the XPERIA X2… Anyway, here are the XPERIA X2 specs and features:
So let me tell you about the 2 latest rumor on Sony Ericsson that draws me and phone geeks’ attention: The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 and Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3. Well, from the specs and features of the 2 SE phones we got, the XPERIA X3 seems to be more attractive; but now it is time for the X2 to show up
What you are about to see is a video demo of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 running on Windows Mobile (WinMo) 6.5 . There will be many actions and you can also see panels made for the X2. It is still disturbed with bugs a bit but hopefully Sony Ericsson will improve the OS soon. Enjoy the video after the break and share your opinion under Continue reading ‘Video: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 with Windows Mobile 6.5’ »
